An Evening with John Hartson

It was quite an honour to meet John Hartson who has an incredible story!
The crowd interact with ex Leeds United player turned comedian John Stiles as he requests team captains from each table.
Gloucester City executives, Chairman Mike Dunstan & Manger Tim Harris pose with John Hartson at The Hatherley Manor Hotel.
I did struggle with the lighting but it was a joy to hear John speak about his stories with ex teamates & his battle with cancer.

Gloucester City v Staines Town

Gloucester City faced another FA Cup replay at Whaddon Road, this time in the third qualifying round against Staines Town, a tasty meeting against Forest Green Rovers awaits the victors!
Charlie Griffin applies pressure to his opposing goalkeeper..
..who appeared to be sporting a blue Swansea City badge on his back.
I decided to experiment a bit with exposures at f11 showing off the floodlights..
..and 1/125th for some motion blur.
An impressive leap to penetrate the Staines defence. Gloucester ended the first half 1-0 up but Staines managed to claw it back to 2-2 before 60 minutes had passed. Nathan Modest secured the win for the tigers with three minutes to spare.
A Staines defender pleads his case to the referee.
Marc Richards places his attention on the home support during the full time handshakes.
'Forest Green, we're coming for you' was the chant at Full time from the home support with a win tonight they host their local rivals later this month.
Gloucestershire pride will be at stake in the 4th qualifying round of the FA Cup. Tonight's result brings an end to an emotional week for the City with the news breaking last Wednesday that they will be allowed a move back to Meadow Park after a 7 year exile.

Gloucester City v Paulton Rovers

Under the lights at Whaddon Road, I decided to book out a 60D & 100mm 2.8 from Paul to combat the low light situation, I'm pleased with the results and looking forward to using the combination again soon. Match Report

After drawing 1-1 at the weekend, a replay decided if Gloucester City or Paulton would progress to the third qualifying round of the FA Cup. Here a Paulton defender anticipates a delivery into the box.
Charlie Griffin avoids a challenge on the edge of the box, with his side progressing into the next round away to Staines thanks to strike from Matt Groves at the half hour mark & George Miller getting off the mark for his new club in the second half.
Tigers' manager Tim Harris applauds the 377 strong crowd at full time.

'Street Football' Portrait Project

Inspired by Social Portraiture such as Humans of New York & Crossing Paths as well as wanting to increase my confidence in taking portraits, I wanted to start a personal project that would allow me to approach people on the street in a similar manor but refine it to a sporting subject. I've been living in Cheltenham for over a year now and I've noticed a large range of football shirts being sporting along the high street, I'd like to document those proud to wear the colours of their team whilst out & about, hopefully this project can quietly expand from Cheltenham to other locations that I visit. I asked my house mates for help to start this project off.

Tour of Britain

Thousands of people lined the route of Stage 4 from Worcester to Bristol, here along Harp Hill the crowd were joined by local school classes to cheer along the 2014 Tour of Britain.
Rolling road closures using Police bikes were used as part of the logistics to deliver this race.
The leaders of the Tour of Britain round the curve onto Harp Hill.
The following Peleton round the curve onto Harp Hill.
The Peleton runs wide onto Harp Hill.
Sir Bradley Wiggins' success is a large reason for the rising popularity in British Cycling, Winner of the Tour de France & many Olympic medals I did hope for a better shot of him but here is Team Sky's 'Wiggo' turning onto Harp Hill.

A number of riders ran wide due to the large size of the Peleton filtering into this sharp curve as seen in my iPhone video.
The crowds do not filter out as the Peleton heads up Harp Hill.
In hot pursuit of the Peleton are the support vehicles including the Great British team as well Team Sky.
Sir Dave Brailsford's Team Sky support vehicle turns onto Harp Hill.
On the walk back home I passed the site of Banksy's Phonebox artwork, which has been boarded up since my last visit due to vandalism, which has also been attacked.
